In this experience the viewer is in the role of the healthcare professional.
This scenario features a patient and her son who are angry and distressed at the plan to discharge her to a nursing home as she has become medically stable. The patient is refusing to go stating that her GP said she could come to the hospice and stay.
This scenario can be used to support learning and reflection on managing patient expectations, making and communicating difficult decisions, and ethical issues around resource allocation. It offers the opportunity to discuss the subject of discharge from hospices to other care environments, as well as how to communicate with those who are angry and challenging of decision making.
